Very Bad Rice: tropical rice pudding. It opens with steamed rice and a milky accord that smells like freshly made dessert, then moves into ube and mango, purple sweetness and tropical juice, and settles into creamy coconut with a solar accord. Soft, edible, and very close to the skin: the kind you have to lean in to smell.
God Bless Cola: the smell of a cinema. It sparkles at first with lemon, lime, and pink pepper, like a freshly poured cola, then warms up: caramelized popcorn and vanilla in the heart, peanut butter, cola, and caramel in the base. Sweet and salty at the same time, and less invasive than it sounds.
Culot Thé: the strangest of the five, because of the wasabi. It opens with a fruity burst of apple, banana, bergamot, rhubarb, and grapefruit, and in there are pepper and wasabi, giving it a green, clean kick. The heart rounds it out with jasmine and apricot, and the base settles into nutmeg and woods. Fresh, sharp, and much less sweet than its opening promises.
Rital Date: limoncello and pistachio. An opening of lemon and cold limoncello with toasted pistachio and a touch of basil pesto, yes, basil, over a heart of ambroxan and coumarin that makes it warm and slightly woody. The citrusy, woody base lasts all day. The easiest to wear in the set.
Croissant Café: French breakfast, literally. Coffee and cappuccino at the opening, milk and butter in the heart, tonka bean, vanilla, and woods at the end. It smells like a bakery at eight in the morning without becoming sugary. The most comforting of the set and the one that works best in winter.
